Why you should reconsider the importance of soft skills

Soft skills are a nice optional addition to the more important hard skills? This is an outdated opinion. In an ever faster spinning world where hard skills become obsolete in no time, our communication skills, team spirit, the ability to make good decisions and agility are the real reason for our success.

A study by MIT has shown the importance of soft skills training. Twelve months of training focused on communication, problem solving, decision making, time and stress management, financial competence and social demands, and excellence in the execution of one's own tasks delivered a significant profit at an Indian manufactory.

The training returned roughly 250 percent on investment within eight months of its conclusion. This figure does not include spill-over effects that were observed in the workplace. Even employees who did not participate in the training showed e.g. better communication skills after some time.
