Stop relying solely on governments to solve the climate crisis
“We are nowhere near the level of ambition needed to meet the Paris Agreement goals” stated António Guterres, UN Secretary-General last week. The current governmental plans don’t realistically allow us to limit climate warming to 1.5 degrees. There is a lack of long-term commitments combined with immediate actions to realistically reach the goals.
We need decisions makers to walk the talk. But who are these decision makers? Only politicians? Or also leaders of major companies? Or don’t we all have the power to make a difference? We at Semler Company believe in the power of people. This not only means that we are certain that human beings are generally motivated, creative and ambitious to reach objectives they care about, but we are also convinced that we can all create change that matters. We are all decision makers. By deciding what to buy, which company to work for and what food to eat, we make decisions with an impact on a daily basis. Of course, we still need governmental frameworks to guide the way, but companies and individuals need to start to sustain a world worth living today. Otherwise, we will not have the basis for building a future. Shouldn’t that be enough of an incentive?
